The revolutionary RapMan (Rapid Manufacturing) system was shown at the Design & Technology in Education Exhibition in November 2008.
It was received with massive interest (Unimatic took hundreds of enquiries for the system) and some disbelief, particularly when the cost was made clear. Not only is this the first 'Rapid Prototyping / Rapid Manufacturing' system on the market for under £10,000, it is also the first at under £1,000!!
The RepRap is available for £750. Orders received by the end of November will be priced at £550 (£100 deposit required to secure the order), and shipping will begin before the end of January 2009.
It is clear that the RapMan will effect changes in the teaching of D&T and of the Engineering Diploma, and it is affordable for all D&T departments.
Congratulations goes to Andy Millicheap, of Droitwich Spa High School, for winning a RapMan in Unimatic Engineers' prize draw at the D&T Show in November. See what he has to say about it...
